The country’s civil aviation industry has expanded dramatically. Based on traffic information provided by several domestic airlines, the passenger count exceeded 636 lakhs from January to May 2023, representing an annual increase rate of more than 36% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The number of passengers increased from over 114 lahks in May of last year to over 132 lahks in May of this year, representing a jump of 15.24% month over month.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation claims that this expansion is evidence of the joint efforts made by airports, airlines, and the Ministry to promote a secure, effective, and passenger-focused aviation environment. The significant growth in passenger volume highlights the resilience and strength of India’s aviation industry, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and provide citizens with convenient travel options.

In May of this year, there were 3.26 lakh more passengers than there were in April.

Additionally, compared to May 2019, there were fewer complaints about passengers in May 2023.

According to Jyotiraditya Scindia, minister of civil aviation, all stakeholders’ concerted efforts have been instrumental in advancing the aviation industry’s expansion and elevating India to the status of a major international aviation center. According to him, the UDAN Scheme ensures last-mile connectivity, and the steady growth of the domestic aviation sector and the emergence of regional airlines are boosting the economy.
