Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal defends himself after CBI summons

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has defended himself after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned him in connection with a case related to the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) project. Kejriwal, who is also the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has denied any wrongdoing and said that if he is corrupt, then there is no one honest in the country.

The Delhi CM has alleged that the CBI’s move is politically motivated and aimed at silencing him and his party. He has also accused the central government of using the CBI as a tool to target opposition leaders. Kejriwal has said that he is ready to face any inquiry and has full faith in the judiciary.

The alleged irregularities in the DUSIB project came to light in 2018 when the Lt Governor of Delhi ordered an inquiry into it. The project was launched by the Delhi government in 2015 to provide housing for slum dwellers in the city. The CBI had registered a case against unknown officials of the DUSIB and private firms in connection with the irregularities.

Kejriwal has been a vocal critic of the central government and has often accused it of targeting him and his party. He has also been involved in several high-profile controversies, including his public spat with former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and his sit-in protest at the Lieutenant Governor’s office in 2018.

The Delhi CM’s statement has sparked a political controversy, with opposition parties accusing him of trying to deflect attention from the alleged irregularities in the DUSIB project. The BJP has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and accused Kejriwal of indulging in corruption.
