New Delhi : Gautam Gambhir, the former left-handed opener for India, has advised the current Rohit Sharma-led team to avoid complacency in their upcoming matches, citing the legendary 376-run partnership for the fifth wicket between VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid in the famous Kolkata Test against Australia.

India has won the first two matches of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and their six-wicket victory in New Delhi has ensured that they have retained the trophy with an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-game series. However, two more matches remain in the series, which will take place in Indore and Ahmedabad, respectively. Another win will secure India’s second successive spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be held at The Oval in London on June 8.

Gambhir cautioned that, despite their current lead, India cannot afford to underestimate their opponents. He highlighted the example of Laxman and Dravid’s match-winning partnership, which turned the tide of the Kolkata Test, and emphasized that such moments can happen unexpectedly. Gambhir also noted that Australia’s star batters, who have struggled in both matches so far, must come together as a team and perform well if they hope to stage a comeback in the series.

Gambhir also expressed his doubts about predicting a 4-0 series win for India, pointing out that the Australian team still has talented players like Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Usman Khawaja who could prove crucial to their success. However, he noted that their batting will be heavily dependent on these three players, especially if David Warner is unable to play.
