Odisha : A tragic incident has occurred in Balasore, Odisha, where a 10th-grade student passed away after consuming lunch at a local Kanyashram. After the incident, 25 other girls were hospitalized for similar symptoms after eating their lunch at the hostel. The affected students from Purubai Kanyashram in Soro were immediately rushed to the hospital after they began vomiting. Unfortunately, Rabina Singh, one of the students, died while undergoing treatment. Later, 23 more girls were admitted to the community health centre after falling ill.

The hostel’s Secretary, Sumati Mohanty, reported that the girls were taken to the hospital immediately after they started vomiting. A doctor at the Soro CHC stated that the hostel’s residents had been suffering from cough and cold for the past four days, indicating that contaminated water and food may have caused the girls’ sickness. Balasore chief district medical officer Dulalsen Jagdeb said they cannot comment on the cause of the girl’s death and the sickness of the other students until the investigation is complete. In a similar incident last month, nearly 100 students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in the Lakkidi area of Wayanad district in Kerala were also hospitalized for food poisoning.
