PM Modi will be in Japan on September 27 for Shinzo Abe funeral, meet Fumio Kishida

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi will visit Japan on September 27 to attend the state funeral of former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, the government announced on Thursday. Modi will also separately meet Japanese PM Fumio Kishida during the visit.
More than 50 world leaders, including Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, Australian PM Anthony Albanese and US Vice President Kamala Harris, are expected to attend the funeral.
A top Japanese official was quoted as saying on Thursday that Japan wants to hold as many summit meetings as possible on the margins in order to show people in and outside the country “the resolve in inheriting the diplomatic assets left by Abe, and developing them”.
Abe, Japan’s longest-serving PM who enjoyed a great personal rapport with Modi, was shot on July 8 while delivering a campaign speech in western Japan ahead of the House of Councillors election on July 10.
Abe designed and formalised Quad and was also the chief architect of Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific policy that aligns closely with India’s own ‘Act East’ policy. TNN
