I belong to Rajasthan, will like to serve it for lifetime: Ashok Gehlot

NEW DELHI: The issue of Ashok Gehlot‘s successor in Rajasthan has triggered keen interest – whether he will get to nominate the next CM or someone else gets the nod with Sachin Pilot being a keen claimant. Also, whether the change will happen soon – before or after the poll – or Gehlot may get some more time in the chair.
Rebuffing queries about “one man, one post”, Gehlot said, “This debate is unnecessary. I have remained silent. If the media is to be believed, I don’t want to relinquish the post of CM.” He claimed his statement about lifetime devotion to Rajasthan has been misinterpreted. “I’ve said this for sure, I say this even today, and will maintain this even after I fill the form (for AICC polls): I belong to Rajasthan and I would like to serve the state for my lifetime. What is wrong in saying this? People take a different meaning out of this,” he said.
Asked if his successor will be picked based on his recommendations or if views of MLAs will be sought, or if the leadership will decide, Gehlot was tightlipped on details.
“Our general secretary in charge Ajay Maken and party chief Sonia Gandhi will decide on what exercise should be undertaken there, and when that exercise should be undertaken. They will make those decisions,” he said.
